Final Stage of Construction Beginning. CLC Will Address Educational Needs of Rural Villagers.
Along with
Operation Olasiti, Achieve in Africa's other current project is the CLC, which will promote
after-school and adult learning.
The Center is in its final stage of construction and will be powered by
solar panels on its roof,
becoming the only structure in the village of Ulolela and surrounding villages with electricity.
Teachers from surrounding schools are coming to the CLC and providing students with
after-school tutoring.
The Center is currently a place where children can study without needing to burn an expensive oil lantern.
In addition to after-school tutoring, the CLC will soon offer
self empowerment courses for women,
business fundamentals training for entrepreneurs,
agriculture education for farmers,
and
HIV/AIDS awareness for teenagers and adults.

What Will the CLC Provide?
The
Full Spectrum Village Impact Model is a model created by Achieve in Africa and partner
LEVI (Learning in a Village Project) to be taught at the CLC. The model is an innovative,
six-pronged approach to helping the needs of an entire village. Each component works to improve the lives of children and adults in the village and is in place so that the village as a whole can prosper.
Self-Empowerment for Women
After-School Tutoring for Students
- There are 14 schools within distance of the Community Learning Center.
- Teachers from the surrounding schools take shifts tutoring at the CLC.
Agriculture Education for Farmers
- We conduct seminars on how to improve farming techniques, and help farmers understand their crop value chains.
Business Fundamentals for Entrepreneurs
- We provide lesson plans teaching the basics of accounting, finance, marketing, and general business acumen to villagers with small businesses.
HIV/AIDS Awareness for Teenagers and Adults
- We use a proven curriculum by SI Change to hold sessions discussing both the causes of HIV/AIDS and means of prevention.
Sports and Learning Week for Children
- This week long event in September hosts sporting matches and reading and writing competitions. The week is shared with volunteers from the local community and overseas as well as local leaders and members of the Ulolela village community.
